Alternative Investments: The Collector's Choice
Alternative investments open the door for those of us who are not cut out for the world of traditional investment. Traditional investment refers to shares, money, property, bonds etc. and it requires a strong business mind (and the experts from CTFM) to navigate. In this black and white world of graphs and hard facts, passion can sometimes fall to the wayside. That's where alternative investments come in.
Value can be found where we choose to place it; sentimental or monetary. A lucky few can find both these values in their hobby: collecting. It is, of course, important to note that not all collections are valuable: tourist t-shirts from around the world do not quite hold the same value as a collection of Ming vases, for example.
But if you are confident in your collection and you have made well-researched choices, don't let anyone deter you from roping them in one after the other. Some pieces retain their value through economic ups-and-downs and can be a way of keeping your finances steady.
Compare the Financial Markets suggests a few key collectors item's that might prove to be excellent investment opportunities for this year. They are:
-Vintage Automobiles: with returns higher than that of gold or equities in 2016, vintage automobiles have caught the eyes of investors (and not just your quirky neighbour Herbert down the street who is always tinkering away at that old car of his).
-Philately: stamp collecting has long since ceased to be the hobby of young boys and librarians. If you know your stuff, you just might be able to build up a collection worth thousands of pounds. Stamps are regarded as tangible pieces of history and, like art, they can far outlive their own times.
-Contemporary Art: with the help of an expert and some thorough research, you can invest in a piece that would steadily increase in value as the years go by, as well as look pretty in the foyer.
Investments can be personal, as well as business-like. Injecting a bit of passion into alternative investments could only be a good thing. What will you be collecting?
