Steps to Getting an Investor Visa in the UK

Steps to Getting an Investor Visa in the UK

Investing in the UK does take time and effort in order to obtain the proper investment visa. However, with the proper research and following the required steps to getting an investor visa in the UK, you can be on your way to investing within a month, if approved.

Following these steps can help you achieve your goal of obtaining a Tier 1 Investor visa in the UK.

Step 1 – Ensure  you have the required amount of funds at your disposal. In order to qualify for an investor visa in the UK, an applicant must have a minimum of one million pounds (£1 million) at their disposal and available at the time of application. Proof of funds is required. The funds must be completely available of the time of application and held in an approved UK financial facility. This £1 million pounds may include money loaned to the applicant as long as the Financial Services Authority regulates the holding institution.

Step 2 – Make your application with the UK Visa Bureau. Once you have determined you meet the minimum requirements for application, primarily the financial requirements, you can submit your application for a Tier 1 Investor Visa by contacting the United Kingdom Visa Bureau, or visiting their website to submit an online application. Be sure to print out and/or photocopy your application.

Step 3 – Submit supporting documentation. After you have completed your application via traditional mail or online, you will need to submit the corresponding and required documents. These documents may include your passport, portfolio reports, letter from authorised banking institution(s) indicating proof of money, and evidence of joint funding. Some countries require additional documents such as your family book (China) or marriage certificates with court stamps (Afghan and Pakistan marriages). Some countries require proof of tuberculosis testing. You must provide original documents, and a good quality photocopy of all documentation submitted, or the return of your original documents is not guaranteed.

Step 4 – Visit a Visa Application Centre. If you are applying for an investor visa from outside the UK you will need to visit an approved Visa application centre in your country. If you apply for your visa online, you may book your Visa Application Centre appointment(s) online to move forward with your application process.

Step 5 – Submit Biometric Information. All applications require biometric information. Biometric information includes fingerprints and photographs. Ensure you have this material submitted when you attend your appointment at your local Visa Application Centre.

Step 6 – Pay your Application Fee. All Tier 1 Investor Visa applications require an application fee that must be paid online, at your local visa application centre, or at an approved application centre in the UK.

Once you have completed the steps applying for your Tier 1 Investor application, you will then be required to wait for your application to be processed. Processing can take approximately three to four months; however, some applications are expedited due to investing deadlines. It is important to note that, in most cases, expedited applications are few and are usually only granted regarding substantial investment opportunities. Once your application has been adjudicated, the UK Border Agency will notify you directly of the outcome.
